Jaron van der Velden Book an introduction

About

I trained as an electronics engineer. In practice I do more than that.

I am Jaron van der Velden. I studied electrical engineering at HAN in Arnhem and have been working on technical products since 2017. First measurement prototypes for defence at Microflown Avisa, then wireless controls at Inspiro, six years of audio electronics at IAH (the company behind Siltech), and electric drivetrains for bicycles at VanRaam.

I noticed that with small products it almost never goes wrong in the electronics or the mechanics themselves. It goes wrong where those two meet: a board that does not quite fit, or a sensor the firmware makes the wrong assumption about. So I deliberately widened what I do. That way I can solve that kind of thing myself, and build it too.

I like working on things that still have to be worked out. A device that does not exist yet, or a measurement problem with no solution yet. Projects I can take from start to finish on my own, where something working stands at the end.

Besides engineering I play and work with music. That is where my interest in acoustics and amplifiers comes from.

Career

Where I have worked

Present

Mechatronics engineer

Mechatronic Engineering 2.0, Lichtenvoorde

Development of mechatronic systems and machines.

2022 – 2023

Hardware Engineer & Research

VanRaam, Varsseveld, NL

Research and development of a fully electric drivetrain for bicycles: which rules apply, whether it was feasible, and testing in practice. Writing along with the existing pedal-assist system and helping debug the firmware. Battery degradation research using an analysis of every GSM-connected battery in the field, together with the University of Twente.

2019 – 2022

R&D Engineer, Designer & Research

IAH, Elst, NL (Siltech)

Research into magnetic fields and acoustic effects in audio cables. Design and development of mechanics and electronics for new products: cables, loudspeakers and amplifiers, including the CrystalCable Art series and the Royal Crown series. Testing and measuring audio equipment, and helping with existing projects such as the Siltech Symphony and the SAGA amplifiers.

2019

Graduation internship, Electrical Engineering

Inspiro, Arnhem, NL

Making a wireless control for a chimney fan suitable for sale. PCB and analogue RF matching circuit, embedded C for a Silicon Labs microcontroller, enclosure and a demonstration setup.

2018

Energy harvesting researcher

Prange, Winterswijk, NL

Part-time research into harvesting kinetic energy.

2017 – 2018

Electrical Engineering internship

Microflown Avisa

Developing a portable measurement device for defence: PCB design, Arduino software and a 3D printed enclosure.

2017

Physics tutor

RietveldLyceum, Doetinchem, NL

Tutoring upper secondary school students in physics.
